Item No. 1 2 068
Date: January 23, 2012
Item/Subject: Ordinance, Amending the Code of the City of Bangor, Chapter 33-2 and Chapter
265-4 (F) — Recycling Committee
Responsible Department: Legal
Commentary:
If approved this Ordinance amendment will eliminate the Recycling Committee. When formed, it
was anticipated that the Recycling Committee would evaluate recycling options for the City and
provide alternatives to the current system. With much of the data collection and analysis
complete, the Recycling Committee is no longer as necessary as it once had been. Therefore, it
has been recommended that the Recycling Committee sunset until such time when more
intensive work is needed. Recycling remains a function of the Public Works Department and
issues regarding recycling will continue to be directed to the City Council's Infrastructure
Committee. In the event that circumstances change so that a recycling committee would be of
benefit to the City the City Ordinances can be amended to again establish the committee.
This proposed amendment as been previously reviewed in a Council Workshop Session.
