Item No: 12 029
Date: December 12, 2011
Item/Subject: Ordinance, Amending Chapter 28, City Departments, Article XV, Records
Department, Section 69, Records Retention of the City of Bangor
Responsible Department: City Clerk
Commentary:
This item will amend Chapter 28, Article XV, Section 69, and Records Retention of the City of
Bangor by replacing it with a reference to State Statue referenced in Chapter 10 of the Rules for
Disposition of Local Government Records. Specifically, this amendment will delete the table of
records from the Chapter 28 of the Codified Ordinances and will reference the state document.
By Charter, the City Clerk is designated as the Records Management Officer for the City of
Bangor. Although records are housed throughout the City in various offices, the City Clerk has
worked as a liaison with all departments to ensure that records are properly protected, retained,
purged and destroyed (when applicable). By referencing that Chapter, the City will be in
compliance and avoid any potential conflicts that could result by creating its own listing.
