Item No. 14-257
Date: August 11, 2014
Item/Subject: Order, Authorizing the City Manager to Apply for a $150,000 Grant from the
Maine Department of Environmental Protection as funded by the US EPA under
Chapter 319 of the Clean Water Act
Responsible Department: Finance
Commentary:
This order will authorize a $150,000 grant application from the Maine DEP (as funded by the US
EPA [under chapter 319] of the Clean Water Act) for the repair and installation of a weir in the
failing pond located in the Sunny Hollow development located in the Capehart Brook watershed,
as well as installing 150 catch basin inserts and 5 mini -bio -filters in the Capehart Brook
watershed. This area runs parallel with Pushaw Road to its confluence with the Kenduskeag.
This proposed phased project would provide structural best management practices (BMPS) in the
Capehart Brook watershed. The total amount of funding being requested is $150,000 and
requires a local match of 40% which the City will provide via "'in-kind" services.
This was reviewed and recommended for approval by the Finance Committee on August 4, 2014.
