HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-07-14 14-237 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 14-237 Date: July 14, 2014 Item/Subject: Order – Authorizing the Application for and Acceptance of $25,229 grant in Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program, which will be shared with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department. Responsible Department: Police Commentary: This order will authorize and accept a grant in the amount of $25,229 from the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant, to be shared with Penobscot County. The Bangor Police Department and the Penobscot County Sheriff have received notification that $25,229.00 is available through the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program. The grant requires that the two agencies share the funding. The Sheriff will be assessed a 5% fee for the City's administration of the grant. The Bangor Police Department intends to use the $13,244.00 for the purpose of purchasing law enforcement related equipment to enhance traffic enforcement efforts by the patrol division and for optics for patrol division firearms. There is no match required. This was reviewed and recommended for approval by Government Operations on July 7, 2014. ORDERED, THAT the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for and accept $25,229.00 in funds from the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program, of which $13,244.00 will be used by the Bangor Police Department far the purchase of traffic enforcement equipment and optics for patrol division firearms. The balance, $11,985.00, will be awarded to the Penobscot County Sheriff s Department. The City will receive 5% of the award for administration of the grant.
