Item/Subject: Resolve, Accepting and Appropriating a $25,000 Grant from the Maine
Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Services to provide Substance
Abuse Prevention and Intervention Services

Commentary: This Resolve authorizes the City Manager to accept and appropriate a
$25,000 grant from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services to
continue to provide community level substance abuse prevention and intervention
services to address the ongoing trend of youth and young adult prescription drug and
marijuana use/abuse as well as other addictions including problem gambling. This is
the fourth year receiving the grant and the term is July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. The
Healthy Maine Partnership service area includes Bangor and thirteen other
municipalities: Brewer, Clifton, Eddington, Glenburn, Hampden, Hermon, Holden,
Newburgh, Levant, Orono, Orrington, and Veazie. This was reviewed and recommended
for approval at the May 18, 2015 Government Operations Committee meeting.

BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR:
BE IT RESOLVED THAT, a $25,000 grant from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse and
Mental Health Services is hereby accepted and appropriated to respond to public health issues,
including prevention of substance abuse and problem gambling for the period July 1, 2015 to
June 30, 2016.
