Item No.
Date: September 9, 2009
Item/Subject: Resolve, Appropriating Grants of $2,430,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration
and $60,750 from the Maine Department of Transportation for Phase 1 of the Cargo
Aircraft Parking Apron Reconstruction Project
Responsible Department: Airport
Commentary:
The Finance Committee reviewed and recommends Council approval of the Airport's request
for authorization to appropriate grant funds from the Federal Aviation Administration and the
Maine Department of Transportation for the re -construction of the Cargo Aircraft Parking Apron.
This is the aircraft parking area located between the International Arrivals building and the Joint -
Use Military aircraft parking area. The area still has the original pavement constructed by the
military and has exceeded its useful life expectancy. This area is a safety hazard due to the
potential for aircraft to ingest pavement debris into aircraft engines. The Srant will fund 95% of
the project with the remaining 5% being split between the Airport and the State.

Department Head
Manager's Comments: Airpot staff" has worked diligently to seek award of these discretionary
FAA funds in addition to the City's normal Airport Improvement Program allotment. This both
allows the project to be completed sooner than scheduled and allows normal funds that would
have been applied to it to be used for other purposes.
