Item No. 8
Date: June 8, 2009
Item/Subject: Ordinance, Amending Schedules VI and VIII of Chapter 291, Article,III, Sec. 40
of the Code of the City of Bangor — Parking for Persons with Disabilities and for
Buses Only — Broadway and Somerset St.
Responsible Department: Police Department
Comm
entary:
As John Bapst's enrollment has grown and the number of students with cars has increased, the
school has recognized the need to minimize the impact on traffic. This past winter the school bus
loading zone was temporarily moved from Broadway to Somerset Street. This experiment was
conducted while snow banks were near their seasonal high mark.
Moving the bus stop was determined to have been a success by all involved. It eliminated long
traffic backups on Broadway at the beginning and end of the school day and when sports teams
were leaving and arriving.
This amendment will make this change permanent. It moves the bus zone to Somerset, two
handicapped parking spaces from Somerset to Broadway, and allows for parking in front of the
school.
