Item No. 'A, 16 7
Date: 5-11-09
Item/ Subject: Order, Directing the City Clerk to Prepare Warrants and Ballots — Special
School Budget Validation Election — June 9, 2009.
Responsible Department: City Manager
Commentary:
As a result of the State School Consolidation Law, the City must schedule a school budget
validation election subsequent to the approval of the School Budget by the School Committee
and the City Council. As we have discussed during the budget review process, this election
should be held prior to the beginning of the next fiscal year on July 1't and must be held within
fourteen days of final City Council approval of the School budget. In order to reduce both
inconvenience to the voters and costs, holding this election in conjunction with the June 9t'
election appears to be the best option.
The attached order will set the election date and the form of the validation question, which is set
by state statute.
