HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-05-11 09-157 ORDINANCECOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 39 157 Date: May 11, 2009 Item/Subject: Ordinance, Amending Code of the City of Bangor — Chapter 228, Public Morals, - Designating Safe Zones within the City of Bangor Responsible Department: Legal Commentary: The Maine Legislature has authorized municipalities to designate areas within a municipality that are frequented by minors as safe zones under 17-A M.R.S.A. §1101 (23). Any areas so designated are required to be conspicuously marked with an informational sign using wording provided by the Commissioner of Public Safety. There are numerous public parks and other areas within the City of Bangor frequented by minors. This Ordinance will designate certain areas as Safe Zones and require the Bangor Police Department to post the required signage. This was reviewed by the Government Operations Committee which recommended approval.
