The application indicates Spunk is a brilliant and thrilling theatrical work that needs to be seen in Bangor. By connecting this production to the Bangor Public Library's collection, highlighting the literary value of Zora Neale Hurston, and addressing the lack of diversity in the theatre's constituency, Spunk has the potential of becoming the most discussed and most important production in Penobscot Theatre's history. The grant funds would be used for the production of this play featuring a 100% African-American cast. The Commission for Cultural Development recommends that the City Council approve a Grant of $15,000.
