Item No: it 9 154
Date: May 11, 2009
Item/Subject: ORDINANCE, Amending the Code of the City of Bangor, Chapter 291, Article III —
Parking, Section 291-37-B (1), Downtown Parking Management Area — Violation Waiver
Policy
Responsible Department: Community & Economic Development
Commentary:
Chapter 291, Article III of the Code of the City of Bangor now allows downtown parking tickets to be waived
if the individual or vehicle concerned has not received a previous parking violation ticket for the 90 days prior
to the violation. This allows for a maximum of four courtesy tickets a year. While this courtesy ticket policy
was intended to be a courtesy to those parking in the downtown area that may not be familiar with the
downtown parking ordinances, such as visitors to the City, they are also used by those working in the
downtown as four "free tickets" per year. Too address this issue, the Downtown Parking Advisory
Committee, at its meeting on April 16, 2009, recommended that the maximum number of courtesy tickets be
changed from 4 per year (within 90 days prior to the ticket date) to 3 per year (within 120 days prior to the
ticket date).
