Commentary:
The Conservation Law Foundation has asked the City of Bangor to support the Livable
Communities Act, a federal bill proposed by Senator Dodd of Connecticut. The legislation would
support land use lanning, public transportation, mixed -income and mixed-use neighborhoods,
urban infill and br�wnfield redevelopment, and energy efficiency.
The Act would pr vide $2.6 billion in grant funding for these purposes. Fifteen percent of this
funding is to go tq rural or small metropolitan areas.
The Act would alsp create an Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities within the
Department of Husing and Urban Development, and an Interagency Council on Sustainable
Communities.
The Infrastructure Committee recommends approval of this Resolve.

(TITLE.) Resolve, Supporting the Livable Communities Act
WHEREAS, the Livable Communities Act would support land use planning, public transportation, mixed -
income and mixed-use neighborhoods, urban infill, brownfields redevelopment, and energy efficiency;
WHEREAS, the Act would provide $2.6 billion dollars in grant funding for these purposes;
WHEREAS, the goals of the Livable Communities Act in many ways echo the comprehensive plan of the
City of Bangor, and the grant funding could prove beneficial to Bangor and other Maine communities,
and
WHEREAS, this Act is currently pending before Congress;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT:
The City of Bangor supports passage of the Livable Communities Act; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT:
Robert W. Farrar, Interim City Manager, send a copy of this Resolve to all members of the State of
Maine's Congressional delegation.
