MEMORANDUM TO: Infrastructure Committee FROM: James D. Ring, Director - IDS SUBJECT: Time Warner Cable Downtown Easement Request DATE: October 15, 2010 The City is interested in expansion of high speed internet service in the downtown area. Earlier this summer there was a special BED Committee meeting to discuss this issue with service providers and other interested parties. Time Warner Communications has developed plans to increase availability of high speed internet service on Main Street. They are planning to install fiber optic cable through a number of downtown buildings and have secured rights to do so. A small section of the proposed new fiber project will need to be installed in the City's pocket park off Merchants Plaza. This will require an easement from the City. The easement should not adversely impact the park or its use. Staff recommends granting said easement. JDR %6 FFWP7 .ma dW I a 41; Ic 1,52
