The Maine Discovery Museum submitted an application for funding of $20,000 in partial support of a $199,000 capital campaign and exhibit replacement. The total fund-raising goal for the project is $199,000 and the project has already raised $20,500 from sources other than the City. In its review of the application, the Commission noted that the goal of Maine Discovery Museum's capital campaign project is to increase private donations and support and decrease reliance on public funding. A grant from the City will activate the capital campaign efforts in terms of capacity, fundraising consultant and marketing. The grant application was complete, well organized on program approach, outreach and collaboration and met funding criteria. The Commission recommends funding $8,000 and that its use be restricted to support of the Maine Discovery Museum Capital Campaign. (NOTE: The Commission on Cultural Development did not receive an appropriation for FY 2011, but has a carryover of $57,950 from FY 2010. The Commission will have $49,950 remaining available, if this grant is approved.)
