MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 16, 2010
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: David G. Gould, Planning Officer
SUBJECT: Amending Zoning Ordinance - Zone Change - 32 Sanford
Street - Council Ordinance 10-219
Please be advised that the Planning Board at its meeting on June 15, 2010, held
a Public Hearing on the above zone change request.
Attorney Andrew Hamilton represented the applicant, Bangor Young Men's
Christian Association, d/b/a Bangor, and Y Vision, in its rezoning application request to
32 Sanford Street be rezoned from Urban Residence 2 District to Government and
Institutional Service District. Attorney Hamilton noted this parcel was not presently
under contract at the time of the last rezoning request that included 9 separate parcels
surrounding the Second Street Y property.
There were no opponents to this zone change request.
Planning Officer David Gould indicated in review of site plans submitted for the Y
this parcel would need to be rezoned prior to plan approval. Mr. Gould noted that had
this been included in the original application Staff would have recommended the same
as the other parcels. Staff did not have concerns in recommending that the Board
recommend approval to the City Council.
Planning Board voted seven in favor and none opposed to recommend that the
City Council adopt the proposed rezoning at 32 Sanford Street as contained in Council
Ordinance 10-219.
