Item No. A 077
Date: 2/22/2010
Item/Subject: Resolve, Appropriating $65,600 in Maine Department of
Transportation Grant Funds to Construct a New Sidewalk on Union Street
Responsible Department: Public Services
Commentary:
During the FY 2010 budget process, staff reviewed a pending grant opportunity geared toward
improving pedestrian safety. The City has received notification that its sidewalk grant
application submitted to the Maine Department of Transportation has been granted. The Union
Street project will involve the construction of a new sidewalk on the westerly side of Union
Street from Eddy Way to Vermont Ave. The total estimated cost for the project is $82,000, 80%
of the funding or $65,600 will be available through the grant and the local share of $16,400 will
be met by either Community Development Block Grant Funds (depending upon availability) or
from the City's existing sidewalk capital project.
