Commentary: Labor negotiations with Maine Association of Police representing 14
Commanding Officers at Bangor Police Department have resulted in a Tentative

agreement to the contract which expired on June 30, 2010.
Major points of significance include: a two-year contract with a reopener clause for
wages and physical fitness incentives at the end of year one; inclusion of a
compensatory time provision; a one-time grant of one additional week of annual leave;
clarification of paid holiday procedures, revisions to health insurance coverage options;
a limit on the number of guaranteed annual leave days that can be taken; minor
adjustments to sick leave, disciplinary hearings, specialty team pay, physical fitness
incentive program and educational course reimbursement; a response distance
requirement, and no cost -of -living adjustment.
The Agreement has been reached within the bargaining guidelines previously
established by the City Council. The Union has recently voted to ratify the proposed
agreement and it is now ready for Council consideration. This has been reviewed with
the Council in Executive Session and is presented with the recommendation of the
