HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-10-13 10-350 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Item No.3 50 Date: October 13, 2010 Item/Subject: ORDER, Authorizing the Interim City Manager to Execute a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Bangor and Maine Association of Police Representing Commanding Officers at Bangor Police Department Responsible Department: Executive Commentary: Labor negotiations with Maine Association of Police representing 14 Commanding Officers at Bangor Police Department have resulted in a Tentative Agreement between the City and Union Negotiating Committees. This is a successor agreement to the contract which expired on June 30, 2010. Major points of significance include: a two-year contract with a reopener clause for wages and physical fitness incentives at the end of year one; inclusion of a compensatory time provision; a one-time grant of one additional week of annual leave; clarification of paid holiday procedures, revisions to health insurance coverage options; a limit on the number of guaranteed annual leave days that can be taken; minor adjustments to sick leave, disciplinary hearings, specialty team pay, physical fitness incentive program and educational course reimbursement; a response distance requirement, and no cost -of -living adjustment. The Agreement has been reached within the bargaining guidelines previously established by the City Council. The Union has recently voted to ratify the proposed agreement and it is now ready for Council consideration. This has been reviewed with the Council in Executive Session and is presented with the recommendation of the Management Negotiating Committee. Manager's Comments: Approval is recommended.
