Item No. I 1 , ' 0 3
Date: September 13, 2010
Item/Subject: ORDER, Authorizing Grant Application for Boating Infrastructure Grant
Funding for Dock Replacement
Responsible Department: Engineering
Commentary:
As you may recall, we submitted a ""Small Harbor Improvement Program" (SHIP) Grant request
on June 1st to fund replacement of some of the City's deteriorate wooden docks (copy of e-mail
attached). With many competing projects that request was unsuccessful.
More recently, Staff has spoken with Kevin Rousseau at MDOT about funding under the "Boating
Infrastructure Grant" (BIG) Program and we have been informed that the City has been selected
for a $100,000 BIG grant with a $33,333 match. This is more than double of what was
requested in June. We will need to submit a new application by September 22, 2010. CDBG
funds are available for this match. Correspondence from MDOT attached.

Jim,
It was good to talk with you again this morning. As we discussed, the SHIP/BIG selection committee selected your project
for a BIG Tier 1 grant It would make available $100,000 of USFWS BIG funds to be matched by $33,333 of municipal
local match and would be very similar to the one we did a few years ago.
The deadline that we have to submit to USFWS is September 22. in order for us to put forth your grant package to them,
we will need a project statement Ned out by the City. I ve attached your old one as a guide. The one you put together
should probably have a just lithe more detail than we had in 2006.
We look forward to again working with you and helping to build a better Bangor waterfront.
Very Respectfully,
Kevin Rousseau
