Item No. 13-302
Date: September 9, 2013
Item/Subject: Order, Rescinding Order 13-295 and Authorizing the City Staff to
Proceed With the West Market Square Revitalization Project
Responsible Department: Engineering Department
Commentary: This Order would rescind Order 13-295 and authorize the City Staff to proceed
with redevelopment of West Market Square. The first phase of a proposed series of projects
intended to improve the utilities, pedestrian flow, safety, and aesthetics in the corridor between
downtown and the City's Waterfront. If approved, the project proposes to replace the water and
sewer lines, widen the sidewalk on Broad Street and include aesthetic work that would enhance
connectivity to the Waterfront.
The Budget for West Market Square Phase I is $975,000 which includes the following City funds:
2013 TIF Funds Budgeted $345,000
2014 TIF Funds Budgeted $255,000
2014 Sewer Funds Budgeted $200,000
Additional funds come from the Water District to pay for water infrastructure. This was
reviewed and recommended for approval by the Business & Economic Development Committee
at its August 19 and September 4, 2013 meeting.
