Item No. 13-227
Date: June 24, 2013
Item/Subject: ORDER, Censuring City Councilor Charles R. Longo, Jr. for Inappropriate Public
Remarks about Governor Paul LePage
Responsible Department: City Council
Commentary:
At the June 10, 2013 meeting of the Bangor City Council the City Council discussed a Resolve
taking a position against the proposed reduction in Revenue Sharing made by the Legislature's
Appropriations Committee. During these discussions Councilor Longo stated that I have not
personally confirmed this, but, folks say that [Governor LePage] hits the bars pretty heavy".
These remarks were inappropriate, offensive, and disrespectful of Governor LePage and the
Office of the Governor. Though requested to do so, Councilor Longo did not retract his remarks
nor apologize for them at the City Council meeting. These remarks have no place in the
deliberations of the Bangor City Council.
This Resolve, if passed will formally censure Councilor Longo for his remarks.
