Item No. 13-219
Date: June 24, 2013
Item/Subject: ORDER, Appointing Mark Woodward as the Council's
Representative to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame
Responsible Department: Executive
Commentary: This Order will appoint Mark Woodward as the City representative to the Maine
Basketball Hall of Fame. For decades the City of Bangor and the Bangor Auditorium have
played host to numerous high school basketball tournaments. In 2010, the City authorized space
within the newly designed Cross Insurance Center to serve as the home of the Basketball Hall of
Fame, which will recognize the strong tradition, support, and importance of basketball in Bangor
as well as the entire region. As part of the formation of the Basketball Hall of Fame it was
necessary to create a 501 (c)(3) to oversee fundraising for construction and operations.
Additionally, one seat on the Board was made available for an appointee by the City of Bangor
and one seat on the board was made available for a Global Spectrum representative. Since 2010,
Mark Woodward has represented the City of Bangor as its representative. As there is still much
work involved to get this project off the built and operating, Mark has agreed to continue on the
Board, at least until it is constructed and operating. Staff recommends approval of this order.
