Optional Cultural
Investment Fund
Bangor is currently in the midst of a notable cultural and economic expansion. Arguably, the catalyst for this
economic growth, particularly in the city's Downtown area, has been the Waterfront revitalization project, coupled
with private sector investment as well the growing cluster of museums, performance art venues and other cultural
organizations and activities.
In an effort to assist this expansion and ensure that Bangor is one of the most pleasant and exciting places to live,
the City is implementing a new "Optional Cultural Investment Fund" supported by citizens' voluntary donations. The
entirety of these donations will go to the Commission for Cultural Development and will benefit projects focusing on
promoting arts and culture in the City. Since 2005, the Commission has funded initiatives and organizations like the
American Folk Festival, The Penobscot Theatre, the Downtown Countdown, the Bangor Book Festival, the Maine
Discovery Museum and many more. The Commission meets on the 2"d Thursday of the month at 8:30am at City
Hall. The public is encouraged to attend and be an active part of the City's cultural growth. To learn more about the
Commission and its work, please visit www.bangormaine.goy/culturalcommission.
