Item No. 13-293
Date: August 18, 2013
Item/Subject: Order, Accepting a $2,000 Donation from Discovery House
and a $2,000 Donation from Joseph Baldacci for the Continuation of the
Community Connector Odlin Road Bus Route
Responsible Department: Finance
Commentary: This Order will accept donations from Discovery House and Joseph
Baldacci for the continuation of the Community Connector Odlin Road Bus Route through
October 31, 2013.
As part of the FY 2014 budget adoption process, funding for the Community Connector
Odlin Road bus route was eliminated effective September 1, 2013. Since that decision,
public concern and Council interest has resulted in a desire to revisit the decision. The
estimated cost to continue the transit service for the remaining ten months of FY 2014 is
$20,000, or approximately $2,000 per month.
The Council recently authorized a fundraising effort to accept contributions for the
continuation of the route with the understanding that staff will report back to the
Government Operations Committee no later than first meeting in October with updated
information on donations received and options to consider concerning service after
November.
