Item No. 13-287
Date: 8-26-2013
Item/Subject: Order, Authorizing Execution of Electricity Supply Contract(s)
Responsible Department: Finance
Commentary: `
For a number of years, the City of Bangor has been a member of Maine Power Options, which is
an energy purchasing consortium that serves local governments and non-profit organizations in
Maine.
Currently, the City is under contract for its medium service electrical accounts through
12/31/2013 at a rate of .0667/kwh; its large service electrical accounts through 12/31/2013 at a
rate of .0670/kwh; and its streetlight accounts through 12/31/2013 at a rate of .063/kwh.
MPO notified all its customers with December 2013 expiration dates of an opportunity to contract
for supply costs beginning 1/1/2014. Due to the current market conditions, current cool
temperatures and prior to the start of heating season, MPO feels that it is an appropriate time to
look at a new supply contract.
Due to the time sensitive nature of utility bidding, the actual acceptance of any pricing offer
must occur within 48 hours of its offering. The pricing offer will be reviewed by the Finance
Committee prior to any acceptance. The attached order would enable staff to execute at
agreements for medium, large and streetlight accounts.
This has been reviewed and recommended for approval by the Finance Committee on August
19th.
