Item No. -13-247
Date: July 22, 2013
Item/Subject: ORDER, Ratifying City Staff Action in Executing a Purchase and Sale
Agreement for a Dangerous Building at 150 Court Street
Responsible Department: Code
Commentary:
This Order ratifies a Purchase and Sale Agreement in which the City agreed to acquire 150 Court
Street in exchange for forgiveness of back taxes on the property. In January, the structure at
150 Court. Street was severely damaged by fire. The personal representative of the estate that
owns 150 Court Street has agreed to allow the City to have the property in exchange for relief of
back taxes. This allows the City to demolish the house without the time and expense of a court
process.
Until the fire, the personal representative lived in the house in question. In order to assist him
in qualifying for rent payment assistance for a new apartment, the Purchase and Sale Agreement
needed to be completed by July 1, 2013. If approved, this Order would ratify action taken by
staff in signing the Agreement to meet the deadline.
