HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-02-11 13-078 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 13-078 Date: February 11, 2013 Item/Subject ORDER, Authorizing Grant of $2,000 to the Bangor Museum and History Center to Support Their Brown Bag Lunch Series Responsible Department: Community & Economic Development Commentary: This order will authorize a grant in the amount of $2,000 to the Bangor Museum and History Center to support their Brown Bag Lunch Series. The Commission on Cultural Development has been tasked to review arts and culture projects within the City and to provide funding recommendations for the Council's review and consideration. Bangor Museum and History Center submitted an application for funding of $2,000 in partial support of their free community learning workshop on the 1s` Wednesday of the month called the Brown Bag Lunch Series. The Cultural Commission has recommended approval of this request because of the program's popularity and benefit to culture in the community. This item was reviewed and recommended for approval by the Cultural Commission and the BED Committee. ORDER, Authorizing Grant of $2,000 to the Bangor Museum and History Center to Support Their Brownbag Lunch Series WHEREAS, the City Council has made an appropriation of funds to support arts and cultural organizations; has established a Commission on Cultural Development; and has assigned the Commmission the responsbility of reviewing grant applications from arts and cultural organizations, and to make recommendations for grant funding to the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Bangor Museum and History Center submitted an application for funding of $2,000 in partial support of their Brownbag Lunch Series; and WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development recommends the approval of the request due to the program's popularity and benefit to the community; and WHEREAS, the grant application was complete, well organized and met funding criteria; and WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development and the Business & Economic Development Committee voted to recommend to the City Council approval of a grant in the amount of $2,000: BE IT ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT A Grant of $2,000 is hereby authorized for the Bangor Museum and History Center for their Brownbag Lunch Series.
