HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-11-28 17-024 RESOLVECOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 17-Q24 Date: November 28, 2016 Item/Subject: Resolve, Authorizing the City Manager to Accept and Appropriate funds for a Maine Health Access Foundation Healthy Communities Phase III Implementation Grant. Responsible Department: Public Health and Community Services Commentary: This Resolve will accept and appropriate $67,500 for the third phase of the Healthy Community Grants Program. The goal is to build on the community collaboration that occurred during the first two phases of the MEHAF Healthy Communities program. During Phase One the community identified substance use disorder as a significant issue. During Phase Two the community created action steps to reduce stigma and to identify gaps in services and supports for people affected by substance use disorder. The implementation plan for Phase Three will focus on building successful, accessible and sustainable recovery coaching in the Greater Bangor area. This goal was identified by people living with substance use disorder and by the professionals working in recovery as a best practice for recovery and as a gap in the current array of services available If approved, the city will provide staff support, coordination and technical assistance for the development of recovery coaching. A program of recovery coaching will be delivered under the auspices of one or more community based partners. The term of the grant is November 15, 2016 — December 31, 2017. This item was recommended for approval at the Government Operations Committee meeting on November 21, 2016.
