Item No. 16-379
Date: October 12, 2016
Item/Subject ORDER, Authorizing the City Manager to Accept and Appropriate $15,000
in Donations Collected by St. Joseph Healthcare for the Circle of Caring
Fund
Responsible Department: Public Health & Community Services
Commentary: This order will authorize the City Manager to accept and appropriate $15,000 in
donations collected by St. Joseph Healthcare for the Circle of Caring Fund. The Circle of Caring was
created by the Community Health Leadership Board (CHLB), a partnership of hospitals, healthcare
providers and the City of Bangor that seeks to reduce stigma and increase understanding of
substance use prevention, treatment and recovery.
These Circle of Caring funds will provide immediate support for those returning to the community
after a detox/rehabilitation program. The money will be used by the Public Health and Community
Services Department to develop and distribute Survival/Comfort Kits to individuals suffering from
addiction, including those returning home from detox/rehab. Specifically the goal of the CHLB and its
partners is to decrease the likelihood of overdosing from opiate use.
This was reviewed and recommended for passage at the Government Operations Committee
meeting of October 3, 2016.
