HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-09-14 09/14/2026 ProclamationWHEREAS, National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that behavioral health is an essential part of one's overall health and well-being, and substance use disorders are treatable health conditions for which people can and do recover; and WHEREAS, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, these gains look differently for all in recovery from completing a treatment program, returning to work, rebuilding relationships or achieving personal goals; and WHEREAS, Recovery is for everyone: Every person, every family, every community. Integrated care, a strong community, sense of purpose, and leadership contribute to effective treatments that sustain the recovery of individuals experiencing substance use disorders; and WHEREAS, Supportive families, peer networks, recovery community organizations, healthcare providers, workplaces, schools, faith communities, public agencies, and elected leaders help strengthen recovery; and WHEREAS, Addiction and mental health challenges affect individuals, families, workplaces, schools, and communities across every region, background and political affiliation; and WHEREAS, Penobscot County is home to thousands of people in recovery from substance use disorders who are leading healthy, fulfilling lives and are considered assets to the community; and WHEREAS, The City affirms that the people affected by substance use disorders are our children, parents, family, friends and community members, deserving of dignity, opportunity and support. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Susan M. Hawes, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim September as National Recovery Month in Bangor.
