HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-07-27 City Council Minutes MINUTES OFREGULAR MEETING BANGOR CITYCOUNCIL—JULY27, 2026 Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM Motion made and seconded to elect Susan Faloon as Chair Pro Temp Passed Councilors Absent:Hawes Meeting adjourned at 8:47 PM PUBLIC COMMENT Linda Deabay requested the City have a toxic waste take back day. Hilari Simmons thought funding for the local health department should be reconsidered as it is the responsibility of the State. Michael Furrow felt the City should stop paying for all lobbying associations and disband the Legislative Committee. Greg Pratley,Adam Baker,Karen Quirk, and Shay Malaney spoke in support of funding for the Together Place. Scott Pardy felt it was time to change to an elected mayor. Jacqueline Smallwood felt Bangor was absorbing the crisis and instead of accountability they were maintaining rather than fixing the problem. Rich Trott was concerned with officials recommending funding for entities where they work without recusing themselves. Emily Ellis felt the Maine Savings concerts were spectacular. She also spoke regarding vacant/abandoned properties and the need for everyone to be required to pay, not just some. She felt Bangor was the gold standard for homeless, and it was unacceptable. Robert Benedict was frustrated that he was not allowed to do his own electrical to frx up his home but had to register as an abandoned property. CONSENT AGENDA ASSIGNED TO ITEMNO. COUNCILOR 26-244 ORDER Finding Councilor Wayne Mallar Violated Three Provisions DEANE of the Ciry's Ethics Code By His Actions on August l4, 2025, During a Recess of a Meeting of the City's Historic Preservation Commission, and Imposing a Requirement to Undergo Training Scott Pardy felt this was an empty gesture. Jaqueline Smallwood felt everyone should be held accountable in the same way.
