Recognizing George Hale for Distinguished Service to the Bangor Broadcasting Community WHEREAS, George Hale has devoted more than 70 years of his professional life to radio and television in the greater Bangor area, building one of the longest and most distinguished broadcasting careers in the history of Maine media; and WHEREAS, over the course of seven decades, George Hale has become one of the most recognized and trusted voices in Maine broadcasting, serving listeners and viewers across Penobscot County and beyond with integrity, humor, and genuine care for the people of this region; and WHEREAS, George Hale has used his platform to shine a light on the stories, events, and individuals that define the character of the Bangor community — from sports, to local government and civic affairs to arts, culture, and everyday life; and WHEREAS, through more than 70 years in Bangor -area radio and television, George Hale has mentored emerging broadcasters, strengthened the profession of local media, and demonstrated that community -rooted journalism remains vital to an informed and connected citizenry; and WHEREAS, George Hale's contributions extend beyond the airwaves, reflecting a deep and abiding commitment to the city of Bangor and the people who call it home — participating in community events, supporting local causes, and lending his voice to the common good; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of the Bangor City Council wish to honor a career of extraordinary longevity and meaningful public service, and to celebrate a broadcaster who has made Bangor a better place to live, work, and raise a family; NOW, THEREFORE, I Susan M. Hawes, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby proclaim our deepest gratitude and admiration for GEORGE HALE and recognize him for his more than 70 years of extraordinary contributions to broadcasting and to the greater Bangor community. Given this 27th day of May, 2026 Susan M. Hawes, Mayor
