HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-02-26 School Committee Minutes MINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2026 School Committee Members Present Chair Tim Surrette, Vice Chair Katie Brydon, Mallory Cook, Sara Luciano, Shelly Okere, Ben Sprague, and Ben Speed. A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Tim Surrette and the pledge of allegiance followed. B. Adjustments to the Agenda: D. 2. a. Mentoring update will be moved to the March 25t�' meeting Motion: Luciano Second: Brydon Vote: 6-0 C. Public Comments: No Public Comment D. 2. b. Director of Civil Rights, Dana Carver-Bialer, presented an update and discussion from the Comtnunity of Belonging Committee. c. Superintendent Robinson provided a district update to the committee. d. Superintendent Robinson reported the following reassignment for the 25-26 school year: Susan Lauritano from Social Worker at the Bangor Regional Program to Social Worker at the Downeast School. e. Superintendent Robinson reported the following resignations for the end of the 25-26 school year: Daniel Chadbourne Interim Pupil Services Director Districtwide Sarah Brook Grade 3 Teacher Vine Street Janet Lee Kindergarten Teacher Vine Street £ Superintendent Robinson reported the following retirements: Wendy Libby Art Teacher Fruit Street Hope Robinson Grade 1 Teacher powneast E. 1. a. 1. Recommendation to approve the Minutes of the January 29, 2026 Regular School Committee Meeting. Motion: Luciano Second: Brydon Vote: 7-0 2. Recommendation to approve the Minutes of the February 11, 2026 Budget Warkshop Meeting. Motion: Brydon Second: Luciano Vote: 7-0 Minutes, Regular Meeting,February 26, 2026 2• b. 1. Recommendation to approve the January 2026 Financial Report Motion: Brydon Second: Sprague Vote: 7-0 c. Recommendation to approve the following extra-duty assignments: Hannah Sherwood (lst yr) Assistant Coach Girls Tennis Bangor High Samuel Picard Assistant Coach Boys Tennis Bangor High Reid Higgs (2°d yr) Assistant Coach Boys Lacrosse Bangor High Lindy Bezgembluk(2°d yr) Assistant Coach Varsity Softball Bangor High Jameson Ploch Middle School Swim Coach WSCS/JFDS Motion: Brydon Second: Okere Vote: 7-0 e. Committee Member Sara Luciano shared the following donations: To Fourteenth Street School from Katie Welsh in Memory of Miranda Travers, Art Supplies, having a total dollar value of$175. To Downeast School from First Assembly Bangor, snacks to support students, having a total dollar value of$300. To Vine Street School from Hannaford Community Bag, a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of$159. To James F. Doughty School from the Danielle Thompson Fund, a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of$200. Motion: Luciano Second: Brydon Vote: 7-0 E. 2. a. 1-4. Recommendation to approve First Reading of the following new and revised policies: 1. Revised Policy FF—Naming of School Facilities 2. Revised Policy GBEBB— Staff Conduct with Students 3. Revised Policy JFL — Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting, Prevention, and Education 4. New Policy JLFA—Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response Motion: Brydon Second: Luciano Vote: 7-0 F. 2. Member Speed updated the committee from a recent UTC meeting focused on the Business Leadership instructors as well as an update for the Bangor High School CTE program. F. 3. Student Member Meghna Vijay provided an update from Bangor High School including upcoming spirit week and winter carnival, auditions for the talent show, math meets, spring sports, 26-27 course selections open, and science fair 3/28/26. H. Member Luciano would like to see a new school photo provider used for upcoming years. Minutes, Regular Meeting,February 26, 2026 3. Member Sprague wished Dr Chadbourne well in his departure from the Bangor School Department. I. 1. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Tim Surrette. J.
