BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2026
School Committee Members Present: Chair Tim Surrette, Vice Chair Katie Brydon, Mallory Cook, Sara
Luciano, Shelly Okere, Ben Sprague, and Ben Speed.
A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Tim Surrette and the pledge of
allegiance followed.
B. Adjustments to the Agenda:
No adjustments to the agenda.
C. Public Co�ents:
Jody MacDonald of Bangor spoke about the current need for our students and families
to feel supported and safe.
D. 2. b. Assistant Superintendent Harris-Smedberg provided a district update to the committee.
c. Assistant Superintendent Harris-Smedberg reported the following resignations:
Alexa Ireland School Nurse James F. Doughty School
Cynthia Howard Middle School Swim Coach JFDS/WSCS
E. 1. a. 1. Recommendation to approve the Minutes of the January 14, 2026 Regular School
Committee Meeting.
Motion: Luciano Second: Okere Vote: 7-0
b. 1. Recommendation to approve the November 2025 Financial Report
Motion: Sprague Second: Brydon Vote: 7-0
2. Recommendation to approve the December 2025 Financial Report
Motion: Sprague Second: Brydon Vote: 7-0
c. Recommendation to approve the following extra-duty assignments:
John Hersom Head Football Coach Bangor High School
Motion: Sprague Second: Brydon Vote: 7-0
d. Recommendation to approve the second reading of the following revised policies;
1. Revised Policy EFF—Meal Prices
2. Revised Policy GDB-10—Educational Technology Staff Compensation Guide
3. Revised Policy ICA—2026-2027 School Calendar
4. Revised Policy IHBG—Home Schooling
5. Revised Policy IHBGA—Home Schooling—Participation in School Programs
6. Revised Policy KBF—Parent Involvement in Title I

Motion: Brydon Second: Sprague Vote: 7-0
e. Committee Member Ben Speed will share the following donations:
To Abraham Lincoln School from the Bangor Elks Lodge, Dictionaries for all 3rd grade
students, having a total dollar value of$135.
To Downeast School from Broadway McDonald's, dessert coupons, having a total
dollar value of$600.
To James F. Doughty School from C&L Aviation, leggings and sweatpants for students,
having a total dollar value of$300.
To James F. Doughty School from C&L Aviation, Angel Tree Gifts, having a total
dollar value of$2,500.
Motion: Brydon Second: Sprague Vote: 7-0
F. 2. Vice Chair Brydon updated the committee on recent work from the Community of
Belonging Advisory Committee, the most recent meeting in January did focus on the
feeling of safety and well being of students and families. Next meeting will be held
mid February.
F. 3. Student Member Meghna Vijay provided an update from Bangor High School
including upcoming sporting events, a recent State Championship meet for the Speech
and Debate team, planning for Winter Carnival and updated PCHC clinic hours.
H. Member Speed gave congratulations to the Bangor High School Speech and Debate
Team for their recent State Championship award.
Chair Surrette thanked Jody MacDonald for speaking to the committee and assured that
he would share the concerns with Superintendent Robinson.
Member Speed promoted the Beyond the Bell Podcast.
I. 1. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Tim Surrette.
J. Recommended to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 p.m.
