BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2026
School Committee Members Present: Chair Tim Surrette, Mallory Cook, Sara Luciano, Shelly Okere, Ben
Sprague, and Ben Speed. Vice Chair Katie Brydon was excused.
A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Tim Surrette and the pledge of
allegiance followed.
B. Adjustments to the Agenda:
No adjustments to the agenda.
C. Public Comments:
Michael Norton of Bangor spoke about his desire to start a class in Maine schools.
D. 2. a. Dr Butler provided an update on the NEASC accreditation Special Progress Report.
b. Superintendent Robinson provided a district update to the committee.
C. Superintendent Robinson reported the following reassignments:
Jocelyn York from Occupational Therapist at (.5) Mary Snow School and (.5)
Fairmount School to Occupational Therapist at (.5) Mary Snow School, (.4) Fairmount
School and (.1) James F. Doughty School.
d. Superintendent Robinson reported the following resignations:

To Downeast School from Bangor Savings Bank, snacks, hats and gloves to support
students, having a total dollar value of $300.
To Vine Street School from C & L Aviation, holiday gifts for families, having a total
dollar value of $675.
To Vine Street School from Bangor Savings Bank, hats, gloves, sweat pants, and snacks

To Fruit Street School from David Teixeira, gloves and boots to support students,

E. 2.a. Superintendent Robinson recommended first reading of the following new and revised
policies:

4. Revised Policy IHBG — Home Schooling

6. Revised Policy KBF — Parent Involvement in Title I
Motion: Luciano Second: Okere Vote: 6-0
F. 3. Student Members Meghna Vijay and Brandon Brozman provided an update post winter
break from Bangor High School.
H. Member Luciano thanked Chair Surrette and Superintendent Robinson for a successful
retreat yesterday.
Member Speed spoke regarding the recent UTC meeting, the CTE programs at local
high schools are providing some building improvements at their schools. UTC also
offers CEU opportunities for teachers — the program is starting Monday 1/26/2026.
Chair Surrette gave an overview of the School Committee Retreat that was held
1/13/26 and thanked everyone for a productive day.
