HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-10-29 School Committee Minutes MINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2025 Schoo] Committee Members Present: Chair Sara Luciano, Vice Chair Tim Surrette, Katie Brydon, Marwa Hassanien, Shelly Okere, Imke Schessler, and Ben Sprague. A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Sara Luciano and the pledge of allegiance followed. 3. a. The Bangor School Department and the Bangor School Committee recognized with gratitude Committee Member Marwa Hassanien for her 6 years of service as a member of the Bangor School Committee including 3 of those years serving as Chair of the Bangor School Committee. b. The Bangor School Department and the Bangor School Committee recognized with gratitude Committee Member Imke Schessler for her 3 years of service as a member of the Bangor School Committee. B. Adjustments to the Agenda: No adjustments to the agenda. C. Public Comments: Michael Norton of Bangor spoke to the Committee about academic achievement within the education system. D. 1. a. Recommendation to approve the second reading of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Motion: Schessler Second: Surrette Vote: 7-0 D. 2. a. Jessica White and Aiden Shepherd provided an update on the 21 St Century Program. b. Superintendent Robinson provided a district update to the committee. c. Superintendent Robinson provided an update of the 2025-2026 school year calendar, d. Superintendent Robinson reported the following resignations: Emma Giannelli PreK Teacher Abraham Lincoln School Catherine Hanscom Grade 6 Team Leader James F. Doughty School e. Superintendent Robinson reported the following reassignment: Paige Boomer from ML Teacher at Abraham Lincoln School to ML Teacher (.6) Abraham Lincoln School and (.4) Fruit Street School. E. l. a. 1. Recommendation to approve the Minutes of the October 8, 2025 Regular School Committee Meeting. Motion: Hassanien Second: Schessler Vote: 7-0 Minutes, Regular Meeting, October 29, 2025 2. b. Recommendation to approve the following extra-duty assignments: Isaac Bushway B Girls Basketball Coach William S. Cohen School Rebekah Kennedy(2°d yr) Dramatics Tech Advisor Bangor High School Motion: Schessler Second: Hassanien Vote: 7-0 d. Recommendation to approve second reading of the following revised policies:. 1. Revised Policy IJOA—Field Trips and Other Student Travel 2. Revised Policy IJOC— School Volunteers 3. Revised Policy IKF—Graduation Requirements 4. Revised Policy JICIA—Weapons, Violence, and School Safety 5. Revised Policy JKAA—Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion Motion: Schessler Second: Hassanien Vote: 7-0 e. Committee Member Imke Jandreau will share the following donations: To Vine Street School from RC Management—McDonalds, gift cards for staff, having a total dollar value of$120. To Vine Street School from Charleston Church, coats for students, having a total dollar value of$450. To Downeast School from T.J.Maxx, coats, boots and clothing for students, having a total dollar value of$700. To Downeast School from Charleston Church, winter coats far students, having a total dollar value of$200. To Downeast School from Kids in Need Foundation, school supplies for students, having a total dollar value of$500. To Downeast School from Bangor Savings Bank, Peanut Butter and Jelly, having a total dollar value of$575. To Fruit Street School from Charleston Church, winter coats for students, having a total dollar value of$600. To Fruit Street School from Lisa Hersey, backpacks for students, having a total dollar value of$150. To Abraham Lincoln School from Charleston Church, winter coats for students, having a total dollar value of$375. To Mary Snow School from Sprague's Nursery, 2 apple trees, having a total dollar value of$300. To Fairmount School from the Charleston Church, winter coats for students, having a total dollar value of$500. To Fairmount School from Hannaford Helps Schools Program, a cash donation, having a total dollar value of$903. To William S. Cohen School from St. Paul the Apostle Paris, sneakers to support students, having a total dollar value of$500. To William S. Cohen School from William S. Cohen School Student Council, a cash donation to support the food bag program having a total dollar value of$900. To William S. Cohen School from Hat Trick Associates, a cash donation to support the Food Pantry, having a total dollar value of$1,000. To William S. Cohen School from Bangor Steel Services, Inc., a cash donation to support the Food Pantry, having a total dollar value of$500. To Bangor High School from the Whistling Buoy, food for students, having a total dollar value of$1,000. Motion: Schessler Second: Hassanien Vote: 7-0 E. 2. a. 1-5 Recommended approval of First Reading of the following Revised Policies: 1. Revised Policy DBG—Budget Adoption Process 2. New Policy DJ—Bidding/Purchasing Requirements 3. Revised Policy DJH — Purchasing and Contracting: Procurement Staff Code of Conduct 4. Revised Policy EBCC—Bomb Threats 5. Revised Policy GCBA-1 —Tutor Compensation Guide 6. Revised Policy GCQC - Resignations Motion: Hassanien Second: Schessler Vote: 7-0 H. Member Sprague praised the scheduled meetings of the district team, welcomed Heather Hale to the Director of Business Services role, thanks to Ray for continued social media coverage and congratulated Members Hassanien and Schessler on their service to the Bangor School Committee as well as to Chair Luciano for completing the year as Chair of the Bangor School Committee. Member Okere spoke about her attendance at last weeks Maine School Board Delegate Assembly, also congratulated Members Hassanien and Schessler and Chair Luciano on their service to the Bangor School Committee and thanked the 215t Century for their presentation. Minutes, Regular Meeting, October 29, 2025 4. Member Brydon gave thanks for Members Hassanien and Schessler for their service and to Chair Luciano for service as Chair. Member Brydon also highlighted the support provided especially this week for the special education student population. Member Surrette spoke about Members Hassanien and Schessler. Chair Luciano spoke about the current School Committee Team and thanked Members Hassanien and Schessler for their services. Member Schessler thanked and praised the 21St Century leaders for their effort with the program. Member Schessler also thanked the Committee for the last three years. Member Hassanien thanked the Committee and the Bangor School Department staff for a great six years. I. l. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Sara Luciano. J.
