HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-05-27 Advisory Committee on Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Human Rights Minutes ACREIHR Advisory Committee of Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Human Rights Minutes for the Tuesday, May 27, 2025 Meeting 6:OOp � Council Chambers • LD 1259-Act to Enhance Public Safety in Maine by Defining the Relationship Between Local and Federal Law Enforcement -Prohibits state, local law enforcement from entering into contract with ICE • significant interest in support in legislation • Representative Sean Faircloth offered cooperating with ICE violates basic human rights. Encourages committee and City Council to stand up for human rights. Would also like to know when any committee meetings on this topic is held. • Joshua Faile- supports LD 1259, would support any local action taken. Encourages ACHRIEHR to make recommendation to City Council to move forward on an ordinance pending state activity • Katie—in support of not working with ICE, and formalizing this on paper in Bangor. • Suzette Furrow- is the committee required to meeting quarterly? And would city council member would not be a voting member of committee? Chair Brydon clarified that the recommended ordinance would change from quarterly to 6 meetings. And the changes only pertain to this committee Other Business • Language Access Statement & Interpretation Assistance (brought forth by Councilor Beck) o See example agenda from Chapel Hill, NC and a recent Bangor City Council Agenda o Member Fellis asked if this is a service we are looking to opt in to but are we looking to provide services. Chair Brydon clarified that it is more about finding opportunities to make agendas, meetings more accessible Manager Updates • New City Manager • New Manager starts June 16tn • City Hall Update • Looking to move back in by August • Discussion about parking next to building to make it more accessible Closing • Next meeting Tuesday, June 24th at 6pm z
