PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF APRIL 21-25, 2025 AS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK
WHEREAS, The week of April 21-25, 2025 has been designated as National Community
Development Week by the National Community Development Association to bring
awareness to the federally administered Community Development Block Grant
Program; and
WHEREAS, Over the program's 50-year history, CDBG supports the development of viable urban
communities by providing decent housing, suitable living environments, and expanded
economic opportunities, principally for low- to moderate -income people; and
WHEREAS, The City of Bangor over four decades has benefited from nearly $48 million to
improve neighborhood services, housing, community facilities and infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, Over the last several years more than 500 housing units have been created or
rehabilitated in Bangor for low- to moderate -income residents; and
WHEREAS, Since 2020, 54 households purchased their first home, 28 public infrastructure
projects were completed, 52 Downtown storefront facades were improved, and 40
businesses received assistance to create or retain jobs; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of National Community Development Week provides an opportunity to
recognize the participation and dedication of appointed Planning Board members who
have contributed their time and expertise to the improvement of the City of Bangor;
and
WHEREAS, We recognize the valuable contributions made by the professional community planners
of the City of Bangor and extend our heartfelt thanks for the continued commitment
to public service by these professionals.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Cara Pelletier, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City
Council do hereby proclaim April 21 to April 25, 2025, as Community Development Week in the City
of Bangor, and give special thanks and recognition to all those whose hard work and devotion to the
neighborhoods and their residents ensure that the quality and effectiveness of these programs
continue to make a positive impact in our community.
