Testimony Consideration LD 237: An Act to Increase the Percentage of Funds Provided to Municipalities Through State Municipal Revenue Sharing City Manager Laurie addressed the Committee regarding LD 237. The proposed legislation would increase the Maine Revenue Sharing percentage from the current 5% to 5.5% for January 1, 2026 and 6% for January 1, 2027. Manager Laurie explained that Revenue Sharing is a proportional distribution from the State back to municipalities based on revenue collections by the State through items such as sales tax and income tax. The distribution, approximately $11.1 million to Bangor for Fiscal Year 2025 is a direct reduction in the local tax burden. As such, any increase in the potential distribution percentage would be additional tax reductions to Bangor residents. The proposed .5% increase is estimated to generate an additional $500,000. Motion made and seconded to approve staff submission of testimony; motion passed unanimously In response to Councilor Leonard's question regarding a bid process for auditing services, Director Little indicated the Request for Proposals was posted earlier that day.
