HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-10-23 School Committee Minutes MINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024 School Committee Members Present: Chair Marwa Hassanien, Vice Chair Sara Luciano, Katie Brydon, Shelly Okere, Imke Schessler-Jandreau, Ben Sprague, and Tim Surrette. A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Marwa Hassanien and the pledge of allegiance followed. B. Adjustments to the Agenda: C. Public Comments: No Public Comments. D. 1. a. VOTED 7-0 to accept the first reading of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. D. 2. a. Community Outreach and Safety Director Ray Phinney and Bangor High School students provided the Committee with an update on the Ram Cam Club. b, Superintendent Robinson provided a district update to the committee. E.l.a.l. VOTED 7-0 to approve the Minutes of the October 9, 2024 Regular School Committee Meeting. b. 1. a. VOTED 6-0, 1 abstain, to approve the following Extra Duty Assignments for 2024- 2025: Rebecca Tower (.5) IEP Coordinator Bangor High School c, Committee Member Imke Jandreau shared the following donations: To Fruit Street School from St. Paul Apostle Paris, sneakers and socks to support students, having a total dollar value of$500. To 14th Street School from Machias Savings Bank, school supplies, having a total dollar value of$100. To 14t'' Street School from the Bangor Elks Lodge, Dictionaries for all Grade 3 students, having a total dollar value of$100. VOTED 7-0 to approve all donations. F. 1. Member Jandreau participated in the Maine School Board Association Delegates meeting recently. The group worked on housekeeping items and resolutions specifically around AI and School Funding. Member Sprague thanked Member Jandreau for attending the MSBA Meeting. Member Sprague brought up discussion around red ribbon week and would like to know what subjects are being discussed at grade 4/5. Minutes, Regular Meeting, October 23, 2024 2. 4. Member Crespo introduced new student member Brandon Brozman. Member Brozman and Member Crespo gave an update on current happenings at Bangor High School including homecoming activities. H. 1. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Marwa Hassanien. I. Member Luciano acknowledged this is the last meeting of her current term, and thanked the committee for a great three years. Member Sprague also acknowledged and thanked the committee for the last three � years, and issued praise to Chair Hassanien for her service this year as chair.
