PROCLAIMING SEPT. 17, 2024, AS CONSTITUTION DAY AND CITIZENSHIP DAY
WHEREAS, On Sept. 17, 1787, the United States Constitution was signed by our Founding
Fathers, laying the foundation for our nation's government and the principles of
liberty, justice and democracy; and
WHEREAS, The Constitution has served as a guiding document for over two centuries,
ensuring the rights and freedoms of all citizens and providing a framework for a
government of the people, by the people and for the people; and
WHEREAS, The 237th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution in Philadelphia provides
an opportunity for all Americans to realize the achievements of the Framers of
the Constitution and the rights, privileges and responsibilities it affords; and
WHEREAS, The strength of our nation lies in the active participation of its citizens, who
uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution through civic engagement and
community service; and
WHEREAS, We must recommit to doing the work of upholding our Constitution, defending
our democracy, and building an America that is more prosperous, more equal,
and more just.
NOW, THEREFfJRE, 1, Cara Pelletier, Mayor of the City of Bangor, hereby proclaim Sept.
17, 2024, as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, and encourage all citizens to observe this
day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, learn more about the Constitution and its
significance, and to reaffirm their commitment to the principles of democracy and the
responsibilities of citizenship.
