BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2024
School Committee Members Present: Chair Marwa Hassanien, Vice Chair Sara Luciano, Katie Brydon,
Shelly Okere,Imke Schessler-Jandreau, Timothy Surrette and Ben Sprague.
A. l. & 2< The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Marwa Hassanien and the
pledge of allegiance followed.
3, The Bangor School Department and the Bangor School Committee recognized
members of the Mary Snow Chess Team for their first-place finish at the Maine
State Championship.
B. Adjustments to the Agenda:

VOTED 7-0 to approve all adjustments to the agenda.

D. 1. a. Director Jerry Hayman recommended the second reading of the FY25 budget.

administrative unit will be authorized to expend for Regular Instruction
for the Fiscal Year 2024-2025.

VOTED 7-0 to approve ARTICLE 11 To see what sum the district/unit
will appropriate for the total cost of funding public education from Pre-K
to grade 12 as described in the Essential Programs and Services Funding
Act.

VOTED 7-0 to approve ARTICLE 12 To see if(the school administrative
unit) will appropriate $397,795 for Adult Education and raise $245,000 as
the local share; with authorization to expend any additional, incidental, or
miscellaneous receipts in the interest and for the well-being of the adult
education program.
VOTED 7-0 to approve ARTICLE 13 To see if(the school administrative
unit) will raise $18,023 to be used for the Bangor School Department's
Vocational Education assessment. The assessment is for the UTC Adult
Education budget which totals $318,528.80 of which$60,847.08 is
supported by sending districts.
D. 2. a. Superintendent Tager reported the following resignations for the 24-25 school
year:
Mechelle Ganglfinger Assistant Director of Pupil Services
b. Superintendent Tager reported the following teacher reassignment for the School
Year 2024-2025:
Erica Jackson from Grade 3 Teacher to Grade 2 Teacher at Abraham Lincoln
School.
E.l.a.l. VOTED 7-0 to approve the Minutes of the March 20, 2024 Regular School
Committee Meeting.
b. 1. a. VOTED 6-0, 1 abstain, to approve the following Administrator Nominees for
Probationary Contract from July 1, 2024—June 30, 2025:
Kristi Lord Principal, Fourteenth Street School
Darryl Loring Assistant Principal, James F. Doughty School
Debra Swett Principal, Vine Street School
2. VOTED 6-0, 1 abstain, to approve the following teacher nomination for the 2023-
2024 school year, with a one-year Probationary Contract:
Meghan Schall Literacy Coach 14th/Fruit/Mary Snow/BRP
3. VOTED 6-0, 1 abstain, to approve the following extra-duty assignments for the
remainder of the 2023-2024 school year:

c. Committee Member Katie Brydon shared the following donations:
To Vine Street School from the First Baptist Church, hats and mittens for
students, having a total dollar value of$100.
To Bangor High School from Nexthome Experience, a cash donation to support
the State Hockey Fan Bus, having a total dollar value of$2,000.
To Bangor High School from Back in the Day Antique Mall, a cash donation to
support the Speech and Debate Club, having a total dollar value of$150.
VOTED 7-0 to the accept all donations.
F. 1, Member Ben Sprague congratulated the members of the Bangor High School
Hockey team on their State Runner up season.
Member Ben Sprague expressed gratitude for the opportunity to speak to the JMG
students at James F. Doughty School last week.
Member Katie Brydon requested an update during the April meeting on the
Suicide Awareness Committee.
Member Shelly Okere requested an update from wellness committee for the April
meeting.
Member Katie Brydon requested that for future budget approvals the members of
the School Committee be involved earlier.
Member Imke Schessler-Jandreau inquired about the timeline for the Scholarship
Committee meetings.
Member Shelly Okere spoke about the School Board Day she recently attended at
the State Level.
F. 3. Member Katie Brydon presented an update from the Dropout Prevention Meeting,
complementing the process in place and the Graduation Coaches.
Member Tim Surrette provided an update on UTC including information on new
programs, newly appointed representatives, vacancies and the recent Cornerstone
award recipient.
Member Sara Luciano reported that a Bangor Student was a Gold Winner at the
recent Skills Day Competition.
Chair Marwa Hassanien noted that the DEIB Committee will not be meeting in
April and will resume in May.

F. 4. Member Dusablon updated the committee on various high school events.
H. 1. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Marwa Hassanien.
I. Chair Marwa Hassanien noted that the Superintendent search is ongoing,
application deadline was March 22"a
