HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-10-25 School Committee Minutes MINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2023 School Committee Members Present: Chair Marwa Hassanien, Vice Chair Timothy Surrette, Sara Luciano, Clare Mundell, Susan Sorg,Imke Schessler-Jandreau, and Ben Sprague. A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Marwa Hassanien and the pledge of allegiance followed. A. 3. The Bangor School Department and Bangor School Committee shared a moment of silence in recognition of lives lost in the middle east. A. 4. a. The Bangor School Department and Bangor School Committee recognized Coinmittee Member Clare Mundell for her 3 years (2020-2023) of loyal and faithful service as a member of the Bangor School Committee. b, The Bangor School Department and Bangor School Committee recognized Committee Member Susan Sorg for her 9 years (20214-2023) of loyal and faithful service as a member of the Bangor School Committee. c. The Bangor School Department and Bangor School Cominittee recognized Vice Chair Member Timothy Surrette for his 6 years (2017-2023) of loyal and faithful service as a member of the Bangor School Committee. B, Adjustments to the Agenda: No adjustments to the agenda C. Public Comments: No Public comments D. 1. a. VOTED 7-0 to approve the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. D. 2. a. Bangor High School Principal Paul Butler and his team presented information on the Bangor School Department's Strategic Plan: Pathways to Excellence. b. Superintendent Tager presented an update on the October 1, 2023 enrollment count. c. Superintendent Tager reported the following teacher reassignments: Adam Edward from Physical Education Teacher at (.5) 14t�' Street School, (.4) Vine Street School and (.1) Bangor Regional Program to Physical Education Teacher at (.4) 14tt' Street School, (.4) Vine Street School and (2) Bangor Regional Program. Pamela Fox from Special Education Self-Contained Teacher at Mary Snow School to (.1) Special Education Multiple Handicapped Teacher and (.9) Special Education Self-Contained Classroom at Mary Snow School. Corey Fleming froin Special Education (MH) Teacher at Mary Snow School to Special Education(SC) at James F. Doughty School. d. Superintendent Tager reported the following teacher resignations: Thomas Leonard Special Education Teacher Bangor High School Thomas Leonard IEP Coordinator Bangor High School Picabo Mower Social Worker Bangor High School e. Superintendent Tager reported the following teacher retirements: Lisa Richards Physical Education Teacher William S. Cohen School E. 1 .a. 1. VOTED 6-0, 1 abstain, to approve the Minutes of the October 12, 2023 Regular School Committee Meeting. b. l.a. VOTED 7-0 to approve the following extra-duty assignments for school year 2023-2024: Peter Sunday AP Testing Coordinator Bangor High School Kobe Rogerson(ET) Boys Freshman Basketball Coach Bangor High School Jaime Jarvis (.5)National Honor Society Advisor Bangor High School Jane Venturelli (.5)National Honor Society Advisor Bangor High School c. 1-2 VOTED 7-0 to approve second reading of the following revised policies: 1. Revised Policy GDB-8 —Adult and Community Education Compensation Guide 2. Revised Policy JGF—Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion d. Committee Member Imke Jandreau shared the following donations: To 14t1' Street School from Bangor Elks Lodge#244, dictionaries for all Grade 3 students, having a total dollar value of$100. To Vine Street School from the Bangor Elks Lodge#244, dictionaries for all Grade 3 students,having a total dollar value of$110. To Vine Street School from the Rock Church, water bottles and gift cards for students and staff,having a total dollar value of$300. To Fruit Street School from St. John's Church, sneakers and socks for students, having a total dollar value of$300. To Bangor High School from Stompers, a cash donation to support food insecurity, having a total dollar value of$320. To Bangor High School from NK Porter DBA Lunch, Soup and Sandwich Shop, a cash donation to support food insecurity, having a total dollar value of$250. Minutes,Regular Meeting, October 25, 2023 3.. To Bangor Regional Program from the First National Bank, a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of$1,000. VOTED 6-0, 1 abstain, to approve all donations. 2. a. 1-1 l.VOTED 7-0 to approve first reading of the following revised policies: 1. Revised Policy IJNDB — Student Computer and Internet Use 2. Revised Policy IICA—Field Trips and Other Student Travel 3. Revised Policy IIAE—Copyright Compliance 4. Revised Policy IIA— Selection of Instructional and Library Media Materials 5. Revised Policy IGEE—Adult Education Enrichment Program 6. Revised Policy IGEB —Adult High School Diploma Program 7. Revised Policy IGDJA—Interscholastic Athletics Admission Fees 8. Revised Policy IGDH—Academic Contests for Students 9. Revised Policy GBKA—Drug-Free Workplace 10. Revised Policy IKE—Promotion, Retention, and Acceleration of Students 11. Revised Policy IJOC—School Volunteers F. 1. Member Tim Surrette spoke regarding fire drills and lockdown drills, stressing the importance of drills. H. 1. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Marwa Hassanien. I. Member Sara Luciano wished best of luck to Members Sue Sorg and Clare Mundell. J.
