Develop and implement a program to expand pollinator-friendly habitat on public land, as well as provide this information to private landowners. This program includes, but is not limited to, identifying and inventorying areas in Bangor that may be enhanced with pollinator-friendly plantings; creating a recommended native plant list to include wildflowers, grasses, vines, shrubs and trees, and a list of local suppliers for those species; and tracking (by square footage and/or acreage) annual area of pollinator habitat created or enhanced; and (d) The City of Bangor is authorized to and shall: 1. Install and maintain at least one authorized Bee City USA street sign in a prominent location, and create and maintain a webpage on the City of Bangor website that includes a copy of this resolution and links to the national Bee City USA website; contact information for the City's Bee City USA liaison and committee; and link to the Bangor Beautiful Bee City USA webpage for additional information about the Bee City USA designation. 2. Create and adopt an integrated pest management (IPM) plan designed to prevent pest problems, reduce pesticide use and expand the use of non-chemical pest management methods. For example, the City maintains the Municipal Golf Course's certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program as well as the course's Monarchs in the Rough initiative. 3. Establish a policy in Bangor's Comprehensive Plan to acknowledge and commit to the Bee City USA designation and review the Climate Action Plan and other relevant documents to consider improvements to pest management policies and practices as they relate to pollinator conservation, identify appropriate locations for pollinator-friendly plantings, and consider other appropriate measures. 4. Each February apply for renewal of Bangor's Bee City USA designation, making sure to follow the format provided by Bee City USA including a report of the previous year's Bee City USA activities and paying a renewal fee based on Bangor's population. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Bangor supports the enactment of the City's official designation as a Bee City USA affiliate.
