December 1, 2023
Bangor City Hall Council Chambers
Meetinq Minutes
Commissioners Present: Hollie Adams, Jane Bragg, Kelly Chenot, Nina Earley, Kal Elmore, Tristan
Greenlaw, Barbara McDade, Margaret Rieley, Lovern Stockwell

1. A quorum being present the December 1, 2023 meeting of the Commission on Cultural Development
was called to order by Chair Adams at 8:30 AM.
2. Given that this was Commissioner Chenot's first meeting, Chair Adams asked members present to
introduce themselves.
3. Meeting Minutes— Motion passed to defer the approval of the November 3d meeting minutes until the
Commission's next meeting on January 5th, 2024.
4. Financial Report - The financial report was accepted although Development Assistant Maquillan was
asked to clarify the amount allocated to the Commission. It was the Commission's understanding that
$25,000 rather than $20,000 had been approved.
5. The Commission confirmed that grant funding for support of the Bangor Authors Book Fair & Literary
Festival to be held at the BPL on December 9 can include expenses for event insurance and food (no
more than 50% of total). Since the grant application from Christopher Packard was made by an
individual but funds were requested for an event rather than a project, a situation which has not arisen
in the past, it was suggested that the Grants Committee create guidelines to address this situation for
the future. It was also suggested that the Grants Committee consider whether the commission should
consider sponsoring such a festival in the future, probably in partnership with the Library.
6. The Commission has been considering the possibility of supporting a printed arts calendar and became
aware of the existence of an on-line event calendar. As part of the ongoing discussion about event
calendars, the creator of"Sevents," Justin Russell, was invited to talk about his project. The site,
banaorsevents.com, covers a variety of events in the greater Bangor area and is free to the public. The
calendar is constantly updated and one can sign up for a weekly email. which can be filtered by
category. An Ad Hoc committee will be created to further study how best to move forward.
