HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-06-14 School Committee Minutes MINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2023 School Committee Members Present: Chair Marwa Hassanien, Vice Chair Timothy Surrette, Clare Mundell, Sara Luciano, Susan Sorg,Ben Sprague,and Imke Schessler-Jandreau. A. 1. & 2. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Marwa Hassanien and the pledge of allegiarace followed. A. 3. a. The Bangar School Department and the Bangor School Cammittee recognized the girls outdoor track team as 2023 Class A State Champians and also recognized Anna Connors as individual champion of the 400 meter race at the 2023 New England Track and Fie�d Championship. B. Adjustments to the Agenda: E. 1. C. 2. Extra Duty Assignments VOTED 7-0 to approve the adjustments to the agenda. C. Public Comments: No Public Comments D. 2. a. Dana Carver-Bialer provided a report on the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging(DEIB) Committee. b. To Downeast School from Carmel Union Congr�gational Church, lunch for Teacher Appreciation Week, having a total dollar value of$100. To the James F. Doughty School from George and Mary Wright, a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of$250. To William S. Cahen School from Beth and Art Kotredes, a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of$250. To William S. Cohen School from the Willey Family and the Willey Law Offices, a cash donation to support students attending the dance, having a total dallar value of $1,500. VOTED 7-0 to approve all donations. Member Ben Sprague thanked �he principa�s and gave congratulatians to Brian Bannen and Lynn Silk. Member Sara Luciano commented on the quick start of the canstruction at the Fruit Street School. Chair Marwa Hassanien asked about an update to the lockdown questions from last meeting. Sup�rintendent Tager updated the committee. Minutes, Regular Meeting,June 14,2023 4. F. 3. Member Imke Jandreau gave an update on the UTC programing; the fall 2Q23 classes are ful� and have a waiting list. Member Tim Surrette met with Amanda Peterson and David Waiker to connect UTC with the Penobscot River Educationai Partnership. Member Sue 5org expressed exciterrient in the growth af the UTC program over the last nine years. F. 4. Luke offered to help with getting safety concerns of students over to the sc�ool committee and gave an update on the end of year at Bangar High School. H. 1. Important dates were reviewed by Chair Hassanien. I. Member Clare Mundell expressed thanks to everyone for a great graduation ceremony.
