HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-11-17 School Committee MinutesMINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING via ZOOM 7:00 p.m.,Wednesday,November 17,2021 School Committee members present:Chair Manva Hassanien,Vice Chair Timothy Surrutte.Carin Sychterz.Clare Mundell,Sara Luciano,and Ben Sprague.Absent:Susan Sorg. A.1 &2.The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.by Chair Hassanien.and the Pledge of Allegiance followed. B.1.Superintendent Tager added the following to the agenda: D.l.a VOTED 6-0 to adjust the calendar for 2 1-22. D.l.a.Superintendent Tager introduced the new Student Representative to the School Committee. b.Director of Business Services Jerry Hayman updated the School Committee on the COVID grants. c.Principal Paul Butler,School Counselor Adam Leach and Communication Director Ray Phinney shared what the Bangor School Department plans to recruit more tuition students. d.Superintendent Tager informed the School Committee that the School Department is waiving the teacher evaluation requirement for the 2021-2022 school year with the following considerations.Goals setting will be an expectation for all teachers. All probationary teachers will be evaluated.Anyone on an improvement pltn.or where concerns have been raised will continue to be evaluated.Tcachers who are in the last group on a three-year probationary period will be evaluated All other teachers may opt to have their evaluation requirement postponed until the 2022- 2023 school year.However,any teacher who wishes to be evaluated tbr feedback purposes or to assist in balancing the number of evaluations per year ma’discuss this with their school principal. E.1.a.1-2.Superintendent Tager recommended the approval of the Minutes of the October 27. 2021 Regular School Committee Meeting. VOTED 4-0 by roll call vote to approve the Minutes of the October 27.2021 Regular School Committee Meeting.Abstained:Member Luciano and \icmher Sprague. Superintendent Tager recommended the approval of the Reorganizati onal Mccli of the November 8,2021 Meeting. VOTE 6-0 by roll call to vote to approved Reorganizational Meeting of the November 8,2021 Meeting.Abstained:Member Sorg. Minutes,Regular Meeting,November,2021 2 b.1.Superintendent Tager recommended the approval of the Summer/Fall 2021 Bid & Quotation Report. VOTED 6-0 by roll call vote to approve the Summer/Fall 2021 Bid &Quotation Report. b.2.Superintendent Tager recommended approval of the August 2021 Financial Report. VOTED 6-0 by roll call vote to accept the August 2021 Financial Report. b.3.Superintendent Tager recommended approval of the September 2021 Financia] Report. VOTED By roll call vote 6-0 to accept the September 2021 Financial Report. b.4.Superintendent Tager recommended the approval of the June Budget Transfers. VOTED by roll call vote 6-0 to approve the June Budget Transfers. c.1.Superintendent Tager recommended the following teacher nominations for the 2020-2021 school year,with a one-year Probationary Contract: Sarah James Grade 2 Teacher Downcast School Alison Vanidestine (I yr position)School Nurse District Kelly Berglund ELL Teacher District Sara Hicks Music Teacher Fruit/Abe LincolniBkP VOTED by roll call vote 6-0 to approve the nominations as presented. c.2.Superintendent Tager recommended the following Extra-Duty Assignernents for school year 2021-2022: David Johnson IEP Coordinator (1)Fairmount School Scott Freeman Team Leader Bangor Regional Program Marisue Schuilling Cultural Exchange Advisor Bangor High School Steven Johnston (2’yr)Boys Swim,Asst.Bangor High School Caleb lipton (ET)Boys Basketball,Freshman Bangor High School Robert Spreng Baseball.JV Bangor High School Michael Bassi (Pt yr)Girls Swim,Asst.Bangor High School Keith Simpson (Pt yr)“B”Girls Basketball William S.Cohen School Susan Burke (El)Governance Committee District VOTED by roll call vote 6-0 to approve nominations as presented. d.Committee Member Clare Mundell shared the following donations: To Fruit Street School from the Bangor Elks Lodge 244.Dictionaries for all Grade 3 students,having a total dollar value of$144. To James F.Doughty School from Realty of Maine,a cash donation to support students,having a total dollar value of $200. To James F.Doughty School from C&L Aviation,CEO Chris Kilgour,50 pairs of sneakers and 50 sweatpants,having a total dollar value of $3,500. To James F.Doughty School from DMT Fund in Memory of Danielle Thompson, a cash donation to support students,having a total dollar value of $250. To William S.Cohen School from Beth and Art Kotredes,a cash donation to support families during the holidays,having a total dollar value of $300. To 2Pt Century Grant Program at Fairmount School from Kimberly and Jonathan Boucher,a cash donation to support the Program,having a tota’dollar value of S 100. To Wt Century Grant Program at Fairmount School from Raphael Okutoro.a cash donation to support the Program,having a total dollar value of $300. VOTED by roll call vote 6-0 to approve the donations with great appreciabon. F.I.a.Member Surette and Chair 1-lassanien commended the vaccination clinic. Member Sprague thanked the community on behalf of himself and Member Luciano. Member Sychterz clarified that the Early Release Day is on December 22tt Member Luciano commented she is grateful to be here. H.I.Chair Hassanien reviewed the important dates.
