HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-06-08 School Committee MinutesMINUTES BANGOR SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING 7:00 p.m.,Wednesday,June 8,2022 School Committee Members present:Chair Marwa Hassanien,Vice Chair Timothy Surrette,Clare Mundell,Sue Sorg, Ben Sprague,Sara Luciano,Carin Sychterz A.1.&2.The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.by Chair Marwa Hassanien.The pledge of allegiance followed. 3.a.The Bangor School Department and thc Bangor School Committee recognized the 2022 Maine Science Fair Pt Place Winners. b.The Bangor School Department and the Bangor School Committee recognized the 2022 Maine STEM 151 Place Winners. c.The Bangor School Department and the Bangor School Committee recognized the 2022 Girls Class A Spring Track State Champions. B.Adjustments to the Agenda: No adjustments to the agenda. C.Public Comments: Landen Michaud spoke regarding a gender support plan. Ven Newby spoke encouraging a gender support plan. Michael Norton announced he will be directing an educational movie,he has received a letter from the Portland Police Department that was delivered by the Bangor Police Department. D.2.a.Principal Lynn Silk,Pupil Services Director Christy Babin and School Committee Member Clare Mundell provided feedback from the Mental Health Advisory Group. 2.b.Superintendent Tager reported the following teacher reassignments for School Year 2022- 2023: Jo Clark from Grade 2 Teacher at Vine Street School to Grade 3 Teacher at Vine Street School. Caroline Seguin from Grade 2 Teacher at Downcast School to Grade 1 Teacher at Downcast School. Ashley Sherry from Grade 1 Teacher at Downcast School to Kindergarten Teacher at Downeast School. April Miller from Grade I Teacher at Abraham Lincoln School to Kindergarten Teacher at Abraham Lincoln School. Minutes,ReguLar Meeting,June 8,2022 3. To Mary Snow School from Bangor Federal Credit Union,a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of $250. To Fairmount School from Bangor Federal Credit Union,a cash donation to support students, having a total dollar value of $250. To Abraham Lincoln School from Maine Community Foundation,a cash donation to support students,having a total dollar value of $1,000. To James F.Doughty School from Bangor Federal Credit Union,a cash donation to support students,having a total dollar value of $250. VOTED 7-0 by roil call vote to approve the donations. F.1.Member Sprague congratulated the 2022 graduates and their families. Member Sychterz asked about the Gender Support Plan proposed by Landen Michaud. Chair Hassanien discussed the DEIB Committee Retreat and also the key points: •Expanding Equity •Community Involvement: o Mentoring o Student Information Packets •Hiring: o Implicit Bias Training o Recruitment •Curriculum: o Thoughtful Progression o “Lead”the work (Principals) o Book Study •DEIB Statement Member Surrette thanked Chair Hassanien for her leadership on the DEIB Committee. Chair Hassanien discussed implementing a Policy Committee,perlaps starting in November, 2022. H.1.Important dates were reviewed by Chair Hassanien.
