O'Donnell, B. Thomas The meeting was called to order by Committee Chair Hawes at 6:13 p.m. 1. Tzse�t�t�e;,�-���e��ces-f�e4��e� �e��e4ess���s•�ge�#er�ce Cancelled, moved to July 18, 2022 meeting. 2. Draft Food Sovereignty Ordinance Assistant City Solicitor Thomas and Assistant City Manager O'Donnell provided an overview of the proposed ordinance. In summary, state law allows for municipalities to opt in to food sovereignty ordinance thereby allowing circumvention of health safety food laws for direct producer-to-consumer transactions under certain circumstances. It is meant to encourage small scale farming, access to food, and even supplemental income for some folks. Councilor Okafor requested this item come before the Council explained her position in favor of this ordinance. She discussed her desire to have a business license required in order to operate under the provisions of the ordinance and believes it will help Bangor's economy. There was significant discussion by the Council about the potential impact, oversight, and scope of the ordinance. A motion to approve and move to full Council was made by Councilor Schaefer, seconded by Councilor Yacoubagha, all in favor. 3. Other Business: Councilor Sprague expressed encouragement for folks to come forward for the draft Flavored Tobacco Ordinance scheduled forTuesday, Aug. 2, 2022. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:55 pm.
