The agenda for the meeting was reviewed and approved as written Minute Approval: A motion was moved by John Hanson and seconded by John Eaton to accept the minutes from the March 26,2003 Recycling Committee meeting. The motion passed and the minutes will be placed on file. Recycling Reports: Arthur Stockus reported that revenues for the month of March 2003 totaled$11,456. This figure combined with revenues received year to date represent 82%of budget projections. • Avoided costs year to date total $49,042. Operating costs for the Processing Center year to date are$172,926. Market prices for recyclable materials have had the Newsprint and Cardboard recover slightly. All prices are well above those received at this time last year. Total tonnage for recycled materials processed year to date is 3,331 tons. Bangor's share of the recycled tonnage and tonnage for the month dropped off dramatically because of the hydraulic problems with the baler, which was out of service for one day short of a month. It was also explained that the fiber products are moving slowly in pat because of the Bowater closing. Advertising Subcommittee Report: The subcommittee has not met and this item will be carried on the next agenda. Recycling Truck Update: The recycling truck was delivered a week ago and went in to service on this past Monday, Apri121, 2003. John asked if any publicity had been sought for the new truck. It hasn't as yet but we will in the next couple of weeks. July fourth Parade: Angelia is a co-chair of the parade and was supportive of the truck and committee participating. It was agreed that we would put the new recycling truck in the parade. We • will be looking for items to give away during the parade: such as,washable tattoos, coloring books, recycling wheels, etc. Kerry, John H. and Torvic all agreed to • participate. Recycling Grant Update: Jerry has completed a draft of the basic grant and Arthur is going though the application and dealing with the estimates. We are asking for a baler($200,000), gaylords ($3,250), and composting bins ($8,400). The deadline for the application is May 15, 2003.
