HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-01-10 Harbor Committee Minutes � MEETING MINUTES . � HARBOR COMMITTEE —7ANUARY 10, 2007 The Harbor Committee met on Wednesday, ]anuary 10, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in � the City Manager's Office. Committee Members in attendance included Councilor Anne Allen, Councilor Peter D'Errico, Harrison Clark, Michael � Gilmore, and Charles Heinonen. City Staff included 7im Ring and Gerry Ledwith. Also in attendance were David Cassidy, Linda Johns, and Frank Higgins. � The first order of business was to elect a Committee Chair. Councilor Allen was elected Chair and Mike Gilmore Vice Chair. � City Planner, Linda 7ohns and City Engineer, Frank Higgins from the City of � Brewer outlined planning and activity related to Brewer's watertront. Brewer developed an overall improvement plan several years ago. They are . proposing a waterfront train and have secured some easement rights. A � children's garden behind the former Public Works yard and the Dead River property has been completed. A shoreline stabilization project is planned for this year and will likely include some vertical bulkhead between the old � Pubtic Works yard and the Muddy Rudder. They hope to incorporate the same railing system used in Bangor. Brewer's concept plan also includes an open air theater,just upriver from I-395. � The Committee discussed the history of moorings in the Harbor and possible interest in adding more moorings to attract visitors. Staff noted that annual � � � revenues generated by moorings have historically been much less than the cost to provide them. Availability of moorings thru the private sector will be � explored. The Committee also discussed the importance of marketing the Bangor � Waterfront and interest in improving our exposure. Seasonal boaters utilize the Coastal Touring Guide as a source of information about amenities, services, etc. The Committee is interested in efforts to improve marketing � and advertisement. It was noted that successful attraction of more visitors . . will require facilities to accommodate them. Additional discussion included ways to optimize utilization of existing dock space. r Due to the length of the meeting, discussion of 2007 Docking Fees was postponed to the next meeting. w Harrison Clark indicated that due to other commitments, the Bangor Lions Club will be unable to organize the Bangor Harbor Days Race in 2007. �� Meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:45 p.m. � �.
